Nourishing Our Neighbors, Giving Life to Local Waste

As we enter the season of giving, we are celebrating some incredible community partners who work year-round to fight food insecurity, nourish local families, and build a healthier, more sustainable Hampton Roads.

Through our composting partnerships, we are proud to help these organizations reduce food waste, responsibly manage organic materials, and give new life to resources that would otherwise be discarded.

The Community Feed at Berkley | Norfolk

Part of the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore, The Community Feed at Berkley is much more than a food pantry. This innovative food hub provides neighbors with access to free, nutritious groceries while connecting individuals and families with additional health and community resources.

Through our partnership and the Compost for Change initiative, we are helping to ensure that food scraps and organic materials that can no longer feed people are returned to the earth rather than sent to landfills.

🌱 Composting Impact: Nearly 10,000 pounds diverted through our broade K.U.S.P. and Community Feed partnership!

Storehouse Food Pantry | Courthouse Community United Methodist church

Located in Virginia Beach, Storehouse Food Pantry provides essential groceries to local individuals and families experiencing food insecurity. Through weekly food distributions and a free community dinner, the church’s dedicated volunteers help ensure that neighbors have access to nourishing meals and a welcoming community.

We are grateful to help support their mission by collecting food scraps and other compostable materials, turning what can’t be distributed or consumed into a valuable resource for our local soils.

🌱 Composting Impact: Approximately 20,000 pounds diverted!

Priority Items Needed for Donation: canned meat (chicken, tuna, spam, hash and beef stew), canned fruit, pasta, ziplock bags (all sizes), egg cartons.

The Chapel Pantry | Eastern Shore Chapel Episcopal Church

Guided by its motto, Good Food and a Warm Welcome, The Chapel Pantry provides nutritious food and fresh produce to neighbors throughout Hampton Roads. Its client-choice market empowers families to select foods that best meet their dietary needs and preferences, all while fostering dignity, compassion, and community.

We are proud to support their food recovery efforts through commercial composting services and a community drop-off kiosk, making sustainable food waste management accessible to both pantry operations and local residents.

🌱 Composting Impact: Over 16,000 pounds of organic materials diverted!

Nimmo Giving Garden | Nimmo United Methodist Church

The Nimmo Giving Garden is a wonderful example of growing food with a purpose! This volunteer-powered community garden cultivates fresh, organically grown fruits and vegetables that are donated to local food assistance programs and neighbors in need.

Through our composting partnership and community drop-off kiosk, we’re helping divert garden waste and other organic materials while supporting a more sustainable, circular local food system.

🌱 Composting Impact: 30,000 pounds diverted through the Nimmo Community Garden kiosk!

Together, We’re Growing a Stronger Community

These partnerships remind us that sustainability is about more than keeping food scraps out of landfills. It’s about caring for our neighbors, making the most of our resources, and creating a healthier community for everyone. To the dedicated volunteers, staff, and supporters who make these programs possible: thank you for everything you do to nourish Hampton Roads!

Together, we’re Giving Life to Local Waste!
