Composting is a natural, practical, and beautiful process that transforms potential waste materials into a valuable resource – healthy living soils.

Did you know, the United States discards more food to our landfills than any other country in the world: nearly 40 million tons — 80 billion pounds — every year. That’s estimated to be 30-40 percent of the entire US food supply and equates to 219 pounds of waste per person. Once buried at our landfills, this organic waste produces potent greenhouse gases like methane that directly contributes to global warming and climate change.

One solution?
Composting.

By composting, we can lay the foundation for sustainability and positively affect our local environments and resources for generations to come.

Below are several of the
benefits of composting:

benefits:

  • By composting wasted food and other organics, methane emissions are significantly reduced.

Compost reduces and, in some cases, eliminates the need for chemical fertilizers.

Compost promotes higher yields of agricultural crops.

Compost can help aid reforestation, wetlands restoration, and habitat revitalization efforts by improving contaminated, compacted, and marginal soils.

  • Compost filters stormwater and groundwater, reducing pollutants by up to 95%.

Compost enhances water retention in soils – up to 5x its weight – reducing water usage.

    Compost provides carbon sequestration.

    Compost improves soil structure and
    helps reduce erosion.
